WHAT IS TANSHINONE 2A?
Tanshinone 2A, or total tanshinone, is a lipophilic phenanthrene quinone compound derived from the root of Salvia miltiorrhiza, a traditional medicinal herb. This extract contains over 10 distinct tanshinone monomers, including tanshinone I, tanshinone IIA, tanshinone IIB, cryptotanshinone, and isocryptotanshinone. Among these, five monomers—cryptotanshinone, dihydrotanshinone II, hydroxytanshinone, methyl tanshinate, and tanshinone IIB—exhibit anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and cooling properties. Tanshinone IIA’s sulfonated form, sodium tanshinone IIA sulfonate, is water-soluble.
