WHAT IS HORSETAIL LEAF EXTRACT?
Horsetail leaf extract is a fine, brownish-yellow powder primarily composed of organic silicon, astragalin, salicin, and vitexin. Derived from the horsetail plant, this extract is processed through the following steps:
Material Preparation: 50g of raw horsetail plant is chopped or ground into fragments, then sifted through a 10-40 mesh sieve.
Alcohol Extraction: The material undergoes dual extraction using 200-400ml of 40-80% ethanol solution at 70-90°C, each session lasting 2 hours.
Concentration: The extract is vacuum-concentrated under specific conditions (pressure: -0.05MPa to 0.088MPa; temperature: <65°C) until the concentrate reaches a density of 1.05-1.1 after ethanol removal.
Sedimentation: A calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)₂) solution, equivalent to 10% of the concentrate’s volume, is added. After thorough mixing, the mixture settles for 12-36 hours. The supernatant is then filtered, yielding a total flavonoid content of 4.46%.
Final Processing: Maltodextrin (around 10% of the extract’s weight) is blended into the filtrate. The mixture is spray-dried (inlet temp: 160-200°C; outlet temp: 90-100°C), milled, sieved through 80-200 mesh, and packaged.
The resulting horsetail plant extract contains approximately 4.2% ash and 4.5% total flavonoids by weight, with a flavonoid extraction efficiency of 95.6%.
