CARDAMOM EXTRACT BENEFITS:

  1. The compound eugenol is largely responsible for cardamom’s characteristics. According to Reda Elmardi, a registered dietitian and owner of The Gym Goat, this compound gives the seeds their warm, spicy aroma.


  2. In a trial, 83 people with type 2 diabetes consumed 3 g of cardamom extract powder daily for 10 weeks. Results suggest it may lower blood glucose and reduce inflammation. Participants experienced reductions in hemoglobin A1c (a marker of average blood sugar) and HOMA-IR (an estimate of insulin resistance) compared with a placebo group given rusk powder.


  3. Beyond freshening breath, cardamom extract may benefit oral health. A 2020 laboratory study testing cardamom fruit and seed extracts indicated potential to inhibit bacteria associated with gingivitis.


  4. Black cardamom extract has shown anti-inflammatory effects and may support overall liver health, although the referenced research focused on individuals who already had liver conditions.
